In this weekend intensive, participants of all abilities will be encouraged to step out of their comfort zones and explore the wild and irreverent world of Surrealist artists and their techniques to create a story, object, painting, or poem. Workshop participants will learn about the fascinating history of the Surrealist movement, and dive into techniques such as: Psychic Automatism, Collage, Decalcomania, Cubemania, Exquisite Corpse and more. Participants will leave the weekend intensive with new techniques to inspire their creative practices, as well as some new friends.

Workshop materials will be provided, but participants should bring a notebook or sketchbook and something to write with.

Please bring a bag lunch. Coffee, tea, fruit and snacks will be provided. We will meet from 10AM to 5PM on Saturday May 13, and from 11AM to 5PM on Sunday May 14, 2023. Workshop limited to 8 participants. Please register by Saturday May 6, 2023.

Instructor Erika Manning is an artist and educator, and has been known to employ the Surrealist concept of the “random, chance meeting of two remote realities on a plane that is totally unsuitable” both in her artwork and life.
