Traditional landscape painting adheres to the basic fundamentals of composition, light, perspective and form. However, the landscape

can also be seen as a series of abstract relationships that comprise a cohesive whole. How does one see beyond a literal view to capture the intrinsic essence of a landscape? How does one interpret a scene in a new way?

Working en plein air and in the studio, using classical as well as direct painting techniques in oils, the

workshop will emphasize how to create new relationships that suggest form and light versus merely rendering what one sees by incorporating the principles of abstraction.  Previous painting experience necessary.
