Poetry Month at the Rockland Library

Posted on April 6, 2013 by Sandy Weisman

I’m participating in Poetry Month at the Rockland Public Library by exhibiting some of my artist books. Two of my books displayed are collaged images that accompany one of my poems. One of them has been printed in letterpress, which is a wonderful printing process that embosses the book’s paper. The other books are part of my Intertidal Series, a set whose papers have been colored the hues of various creatures or plants in the intertidal zone here in Mussel Ridge Cove. They have been bound in a Japanese stab binding, each binding also referring to the shape of the creature or plant. The books were allowed to be washed in a full tide cycle one summer day in July. They were tied to a solid object at low tide. I kept watch as the tide came up, submerged them, and pushed them back and forth over the 12 hours of the cycle.
